Health care costs continue to soar out of control.  Health care expenses for corporate employers have increased 16% over the last three years.  At current trend, a 1,000 employee company can expect to spend approximately $45 million on health benefits over the next five years.  Smart benefit planning and execution have truly become strategic imperatives.

Incremental measures to minimize costs do nothing to address the fundamental issues which threaten to drive health benefits to unsustainable price levels.  Simply stated, the current health care system does not encourage or empower employees to become better health care consumers.  Mid-sized companies in particular are in health care jeopardy - they do not typically receive the attention and resources necessary to pursue short-term cost controls and to engineer a path to affoardable health care in the longer term.
