BUFFALO, March 15 – Today the American Red Cross was proud to receive a donation of $14,465 from Meritain Health to support Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti. The donation is the result of employee contributions at Meritain Health locations across the United States.

"We are so appreciative of Meritain Health for this very generous donation," said Nancy Blaschak, Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter. "We know that we still have a long road ahead of us when it comes to rebuilding the lives of those impacted by the earthquake, but with the help of individuals and companies like Meritain we know that the Red Cross will be there to help them through the rebuilding process."
“The Red Cross plays a critical role in the successful recovery efforts in Haiti,” said Vince DiMura, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Meritain Health. “Our employees felt a need to join together to support such an important cause,” added DiMura.

The donation was made two months after the devastating earthquake in Haiti that left an estimated 1.3 million people homeless. It serves as an important reminder that even though time continues to pass the need is still great. The relief effort in Haiti will take years to complete and will continue to rely on the generosity of donors.

Locally, the American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter has raised more than $1 million dollars for the Haiti relief effort. The ability to raise such a substantial amount of money in just two months is a testament to the philanthropic spirit of Western New Yorkers.
