Massachusetts Health Care Reform Act MA 1099 HC's due 1/31/09

As communicated to you this time last year, the Massachusetts Health Care Reform Act requires, among other things, that employers send an MA 1099-HC form to all covered individuals who are Massachusetts residents by January 31st of each year. In addition, employers are required to send the Massachusetts Department of Revenue an electronic file containing MA 1099-HC's for all individuals covered under the employer's health plan by January 31st.

Meritain Health can prepare the individual MA 1099-HC form, as well as complete the filing with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue on your behalf for a fee. The fee will be a $250 flat fee to submit the electronic file and then $2.00 per MA 1099-HC that we generate. For example, if you have 200 participants that need to receive an MA 1099-HC, it would be $400 for Meritain Health to prepare the 1099s on your behalf and $250 to submit the electronic file to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue for a total of $650.

If you have not already discussed the above with your Client Relationship Manager, please contact him/her today.

We have provided a copy of last year's Compliance Alert for your reference if you would like additional information now on this state law.
