Buffalo-based Meritain Health, the nation’s largest independent provider of services for self-funded health plans, has expanded its presence in Maine by snagging a contract away from Aetna.

In mid-November 2007, Waldo County city commissioners voted to award its employee business to Meritain Health, confident the benefit administrator’s comprehensive programs will save the county money.
