Plus, Healthcare Bluebook offers engagement tools to help encourage users to make wise selections.
Here’s how it works:
- Employers add Healthcare Bluebook as part of their medical plan administered by Meritain Health.
- Employees log in when they need more information on an upcoming test or surgery. With a quick search, they can find the Fair Price™ for that procedure in their geographic area. For the most common procedures, providers are ranked either green, yellow or red (like a traffic light). Green providers offer the lowest prices, and red are the most expensive.
- Healthcare Bluebook also provides quality information on common inpatient procedures, because higher-quality facilities equal better outcomes. Quality data helps to form a more complete picture of available providers.
- This valuable information helps employees make an informed decision about which provider to visit.
To further engage employees, employers can choose programs that provide an incentive for using “green” providers, or set a maximum allowable amount for coverage on certain procedures (causing the employee, and not the employer, to pay more for using a higher-cost facility).
